New Sports Facility

Fisk & Nagle | 3rd November, 2011

Memorial Park at Yallakool Road has been allocated by Cooma-Monaro Shire Council as the site for a new multipurpose outdoor sports facility.

The proposed facility would cater for a wide range of sports including rugby league, rugby union, soccer, AFL, hockey, school sport and cricket.

The full scope of works include an amenities building for up to four sporting teams with showers and toilets, a grandstand with undercover seating for up to 200 spectators, a public amenities building, two playgrounds, two car parks and a cycleway/walking track around the perimeter of the site.

The project is only in its early stages and has been developed as part of the council’s recreation strategy. No funding has been set aside for the project.

In recent years council identified the need for additional sporting fields with more residents taking up summer sports such as six-a-side soccer and an increase in equestrian events which has put a strain on sporting fields across the town.
