Tour de France champion to pedal the Snowies

Nigel Ayling | 19th July, 2016

For those wanting to extend their Tour de France experience beyond their pyjamas and favourite arm chair, L’Etape de Tour (a stage of the Tour in French) is coming to the Snowy Mountains.

Reigning Tour de France champion Chris Froome has been appointed L’Étape Australia’s Pro Mentor. He’ll hold a series of clinics before L’Étape Australia gets underway on December 3. He’ll then ride from the back of the pack through to the front along the 157km mountainous route.

L’Etape started in 1993, springing from the enthusiasm many hold for the race each July. The event has grown to include cities, towns and villages around the globe, and is coming to Australia for the first time in 2016.

The race means amateur riders can feel like the professionals on the real Tour. It will be based in the Snowy Mountains for the next three years at least, a real shot in the arm for summer time tourism.
